Stoneware, Copper Green Glaze
Hand Thrown, Altered, and Sculpted
Electric Fired to Cone 6
"Wheel thrown and altered, stylized oval, lotus (kokyou) pot with copper green glaze. This small pot began life on the potter's wheel. It was altered into an oval. Details and feet were sculpted. It's glazed in a combination of two different copper tinted glazes which I make myself. It was fired in an electric kiln to cone 6 (approximately 2232º) using a fairly long firing schedule which helps promote the formation of fine crystals that gave the glaze a rich and varied surface.

I am greatly influenced by traditional Japanese bonsai pottery. As I've progressed as a bonsai potter, my work has reflected tradition more and more. I enjoy and have great respect for traditional shapes and find it very satisfying to make pots that are as refined as I possibly can make that emulate the elegance and beauty of a beautifully crafted traditional Japanese pot."

I’ve been working with clay since I was a little girl when my parents enrolled me in my first ceramics class at the age of four. After graduating from the Columbus College of Art & Design with a degree in fine arts, I spent the next 30+ years working as a potter, graphic artist and muralist as well as teaching pottery classes to high school students.

My interest in bonsai goes back to my early teenage years. Bonsai finally became a part of my life in my early thirties when I took my first class from Ivan Waters in Chicago, IL. I was an active member of the Lighthouse Bonsai Society in SE Florida in the late 1990s and served for a short time as the club president. In the early 2000’s I began making bonsai pots.

In 2002, I received a second place in the 2nd National Juried Bonsai Pot Exhibition in the Traditional category.
