Ceramic, Glass
Hand Built and Carved Trompe L’oeil Clay Elements
Pâte de Verre Cast Abstract Nest
Made with Single-Use Hand Built Clay Mold

Fired to 2124°F
Suspended pâte de verre glass planter from ceramic trompe l'oeil base.

Yes, we’re to blame. Humans’ environmental disregard is eliminating ecosystems and driving extinctions – perhaps even our own. Where will we go next and what will we find?

Blending known with unknown, a hyper-realistic bonsai-inspired clay form suspends an abstract
pâte de verre glass container like a curious cosmic nest. From it may grow an exotic cascade bonsai, majestically flowing into the open void of space below.

Ceramic mirrors the Universe’s fragility and durability—easily damaged if disrespected yet invincible in inherent beauty and longevity. The organic creation is filled with metaphor. The vessel form links humanity as timelessly inseparable from our surroundings.

The trompe l’oeil clay elements are hand-built, hand-carved, and fired to 2124°F. The abstract nest is
pâte de verre cast in a single-use mold created from a hand-built clay form.

The glass is porous & drains naturally. The branch/rock serves as a foot for suspending the planter.

Eric Serritella specializes in hand-carved sculptures transforming clay into birch, charred and weathered logs. His one-of-a-kind pieces are known for their hyper-realism, and have been exhibited, awarded and collected on 5 continents for their exquisite organic design and incredibly lifelike textures. Works have been contributed to over 160 exhibitions and two dozen are represented in public collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Mint Museum, and Rochesters Memorial Art Gallery. His explorations in glass have widened his pallet for material and color and emerged in a new body of cast glass and pate de verre, often in combination with clay elements.
