North Carolina, USA 2024 10 x 13 x 6 inches Ceramic Wheel-Thrown, Hand-Built, Hand-Carved Fired to 2124°F Yes, we’re to blame. Humans’ environmental disregard is eliminating ecosystems and driving extinctions – perhaps even our own. Where will we go from here and what will we find?
The hyper-realistic double-sided planter invites a pair of cascade bonsai to flow in opposite directions into the vast expanses of space in search of new worlds to populate. Ceramic mirrors the Universe’s fragility and durability—easily damaged if disrespected yet invincible in inherent beauty and longevity. The weathered and distressed organic creation is filled with metaphor, both literal and implied. Anthropomorphic elements and vessel form links humanity as timelessly inseparable from our surroundings, both here and in new explorations of space. This ceramic trompe l'oeil double-sided planter was wheel-thrown, hand-built, hand-carved, and fired to 2124°F. Bonsai trees can be planted on both sides. The planting area is suspended and organic drainage holes within align with weathered channels and drain down the sides to the foot. |

Eric Serritella specializes in hand-carved sculptures transforming clay into birch, charred and weathered logs. His one-of-a-kind pieces are known for their hyper-realism, and have been exhibited, awarded and collected on 5 continents for their exquisite organic design and incredibly lifelike textures. Works have been contributed to over 160 exhibitions and two dozen are represented in public collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Mint Museum, and Rochesters Memorial Art Gallery.
