Garden of the Sea
2021

Discover the hidden details on this intricate, hand painted violin. In daylight, this instrument features a serene koi pond in a floral garden. At night, with blacklight, it transforms into the deep sea. Within the current, discover an octopus, eagle ray, and sea turtles chasing jellyfish. Moving towards the back, the sides feature flowing currents of gingko leaves. The back of this violin depicts a literati (bunjin) bonsai at twilight.
At night the stars glimmer in the sky.

Within this reborn violin, you will find themes of young and old life, the beauty of nature, and the passing of time. It is a visual representation of the emotional complexity that one can feel from listening to music.

Acrylic on violin sealed with water based polyurethane.
