Traditional Glazed KAM WONG
New York, USA 2025 5 x 10 x 10 inches Stoneware Wheel Thrown, Hand Altered Cone 6 (~2200ºF) "Wheel-thrown and altered in the mokko style and fired to cone 6 oxidation, "Still Current" honors the quiet elegance of classical bonsai containers. The form is softened by hand to introduce subtle organic movement, while the glaze—layered in deep blue, green, and rust tones—evokes natural surfaces like water, stone, and lichen. Carved traditional feet elevate the form in both spirit and design. This pot reflects my reverence for ancient techniques and philosophies, and a desire to maintain their relevance through my own hands and materials.
By using stoneware and cone 6 oxidation firing, I can maintain structural integrity while experimenting with surface and glaze in a contemporary studio setting. Though the materials and techniques are modern, the spirit of the piece remains rooted in the values I admire most in bonsai tradition: patience, presence, and a quiet dialogue with nature." - Kam Wong |

Originally trained in illustration, I discovered ceramics after art school. What began as a creative exploration soon evolved into a dedicated practice. Today, I teach pottery wheel techniques to students of all levels at Brickhouse Ceramics Arts Center in Long Island City, NYC.
