L A N D S C A P E 3 Contemporary Glazed KATE HARDY
HOLLOW WORK CERAMICS Washington D.C., USA 2025 1.75 x 5.25 x 3.5 inches Porcelain with Iron Paint Decals, Glazed Wheel Thrown, Slab Bottom Cone 6 "These ‘Shohin Landscape Pots’ are intimate objects where art and nature meet in quiet conversation. I use layers of collaged decals on these porcelain vessels. Some of the imagery is printed in my studio with iron and some are commercial decals I’ve collected. I meticulously cut the tiny trees out of American pastoral scenes and mass produced china patterns to add to the landscapes I’m creating. Each composition becomes a meditation on time, beauty, culture, and the human desire to shape and honor the natural world. The contrasting yet complementary elements are subtle, and I hope that these Shohin pots set the stage for the bonsai trees, which can bring the vessels to life with their evolving forms and care. I would like the trees ground the imagery in the slow, expressive language of nature. "
