Traditional Glazed
KIT RUSEAU
Maryland, USA

2025

2.75 x 7.5 x 5.75 inches
Commercial White Clay, YoYo MaMa Glaze
Wheel Thrown and Altered
Wood fired with Salt
"This oval bonsai pot was thrown and subtly altered to create a soft, balanced form well-suited to a traditional flowering tree, such as a white azalea. The proportions and profile reflect classical sensibilities while allowing room for natural movement and root expression.

Glazed in my YoYo MaMa glaze and wood-fired in the salt chamber, the pot carries the unique mark of the kiln’s atmosphere. One side emerged a glass green, while the other softened to a pale white with a gentle blush of lavender, capturing the unpredictable beauty of salt firing.

The result is a quietly expressive piece that complements the delicacy of blooms, offering both contrast and harmony in a traditional bonsai display.

I’ve been working with clay for over 30 years. My first bonsai pots were entered in the 2015 Third National Bonsai Exhibition and won awards. Since then, I’ve focused on crafting unique pots that honor the tree and act as a quiet partner in the living art of bonsai.
