Laguna 611 Clay
​Mix of Thrown, Slab, and Coil
Electric ​Fired to Cone 6
"I used Laguna 611 clay, purchased from SIAL, Laval, Quebec, Canada. The pot was made by throwing (electric lathe), slab, coil (feet) and assembly. The texture effects are made with grog. The pot was created in 4 weeks, fired to cone 6 after biscuit in an electric kiln, on the top shelf. There were 3 different glazes used. The blue glaze recipe comes from John Britts book (The complete guide to mid-range glazes, Bright Blue) with the addition of cobalt blue glaze from the Duncan company. The glaze was applied by dipping, with a sponge and with a brush. In this pot, I would like to see a Pyracantha angustifolia with red fruits. The blue of the pot highlights the reddish color of the fruits in autumn. The texture of the pot is reminiscent of the Gaspé mountains because of the color of the fruits which resemble the fruits of the sorbus americana frequently found in the Gaspé mountains."

A B O U T   L I N D A   C H I C O I N E
I've been passionate about bonsai for almost 40 years. I have a collection of over 300 trees, so I need a variety of pots. I always found it difficult to explain to a potter what I wanted in a bonsai pot, so I decided to make them myself. However, I'm a huge fan of Nick Lenz and Sara Rayner pots.

I've been practicing pottery for seven years because of bonsai. I've taken several ceramics workshops with different teachers. For the past year, I've been taking intensive courses at the Bon Secours ceramics school in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I experiment with different clay blends and materials.

My partner and I have a small pottery studio in the basement of our house and we sell bonsai pots at the Quebec bonsai exhibitions. I give many bonsai workshops, using my own pots to make them. The coiled feet of my pots are my signature, as is the texture I use. The mountains of my native Gaspésie are my greatest source of inspiration. Its this texture that has made my reputation.
