2.5 x 6 x 2 inches
Continental B Clay
Wheel Thrown, Altered
Split Rim Containing Crushed Glass
Features created with Silicone Sprig Molds
Salt Fired, Cone 10
"It was fun to make and even more fun to look at! This pot is Steampunk themed and takes the “nothing is wasted” approach to creating a suitable forever home for a tree. The pot was designed to resemble unrelated parts piecemealed together: the main structure looking like an aged copper vessel with old brass patches crudely welded in place and old copper pipes in place to supply water, even the feet are pieces of old copper pipe. This pot could be the “any port in a storm” for a tree.

This is a ceramic pot that was wheel thrown and altered from Continental B Clay and salt fired to cone 10 in 2025.  Pipes and patches were made using silicone sprig molds purchased in 2025 then attached with the slip and score method. Innovations include a split rim and the use of crushed glass to create the appearance of water.

The pot itself was glazed to look like an aged copper vessel, the “patches” were made to look like old brass and crudely welded into place and the pipes including the feet were glazed to resemble copper pipes.

The container was created with a “nothing goes to waste” mindset and that a patchwork pot can piecemealed together into something functional.
Imagine this pot is capable of recovering water and that this precious resource is returned to the rim of the pot and recycled so nothing truly goes to waste.

I started throwing pots on the wheel 5+ years ago for physical therapy so I could regain the use of my right hand. I developed an interest in creating bonsai pots when a friend asked me to make one for him and I just launched from there.

Over the course of the last three years I’ve concentrated on developing a recognizable style along with being more consistent with my technical skills. I have branched into slab building and combined forms so I can offer a wider of variety of designs. I have also developed a deep interest in atmospheric firing and glaze recipe formulation. I hope at this stage people are enjoying and appreciating my efforts as much as I enjoy sharing my creativity.
