Contemporary Glazed MERE JONES
GUARDIAN OF THE SEA POTTERY Georgia, USA 2025 6 x 6 x 1.5 inches Clay, Wheel Thrown Gas Reduction Firing, Cone 6 "This pot began as a practice pot that was just dipped in a random bucket of glaze, but the characteristics of that glaze turned an ordinary pot into something special. The glaze is a recipe of Binger mixed at Waldo Street Pottery and it coated the pot very thickly after a single dip. After a long drying process the thick glaze began to crack and chip off leaving a partially glazed result after firing. Additional texture was created by glaze along the rim flaking off after the pot was fired. These various effects created a highly distressed, yet organic finish to an otherwise normal pot."

"My day job involves creating graphics and layouts with very specific parameters which serve very specific purposes. I suppose the same can be said about the art of bonsai pottery which is steeped in centuries of tradition with added constraints that the tree occupant needs to be able to stay alive in the resulting container. Nevertheless, I find that creating bonsai pottery is a freeing experience for me. I throw, carve, construct, and glaze for my personal taste with little concern about what anyone else may think about the results." - Mere Jones
