Traditional Glazed

2025

2.75 x 11 x 9 inches
Grogged Stoneware Clay
Wheel Thrown, Slab Altered, Molded Feet
Vitrified, Cone 6
A traditional glazed, blue-crackle, stoneware oval bonsai pot with sunburst iron oxide wash and original molded feet.

"This bonsai pot was inspired by a recent trip to the Belizean beach village of Placencia. As I was lying underneath a palm tree staring up at the sun, I pondered the bluebird sky with the gentle yet powerful waves supporting the tree. I appreciate this pot looking from below, as if lying down, with the waves and sand represented in the earthy, rippling feet and the perceived infinity of the sky as a backdrop.
A traditional, blue-crackle, deep, glazed, stoneware oval bonsai pot with sunburst iron oxide wash. I make my own original foot molds as inspired by nature, art, and architecture."

After spending several years developing trees in his personal West Virginia nursery, Nathan began studying traditional bonsai pot production techniques. While the nursery is still thriving, pottery became the primary passion with commissioning clients throughout North America, some of whom will be representing in this years National Bonsai Showcase.  As with any traditional art form, classical styles were studied in order to develop a unique style that is easily discernible as his own.
