Traditional Glazed
PITOON EKARINTARAGUN
PIT-EKA
Maryland, USA

2024

2 x 7 x 1.25 inches
Stoneware Clay, Glazed
Wheel Thrown, Hand Built
Fired to Cone 6
"This bonsai container was crafted using Standard Cone 6 stoneware clay. The initial form was thrown on the potter’s wheel and then allowed to dry to a leather-hard stage. Then piece was carefully shaped and refined by hand using a variety of tools. To ensure uniformity, each of the five feet was individually weighed and hand-formed. While the construction process took several hours, the complete firing and glazing cycle extended over a week. The piece was fired in a digitally controlled kiln using a pre-programmed medium-speed schedule, specifically to this clay body for optimal results.

The inspiration behind this container draws from the symbolism of the Japanese cherry blossom—representing the fleeting nature of life, beauty, and renewal. The soft pink glaze reflects this theme, evoking the delicate, ephemeral blossoms of early spring. Feminine in character, this container is suited to complement a bonsai with white or pink blossoms, enhancing its visual and symbolic harmony.
