Puerto Rico 2025 3.75 x 9 x 3 inches Laguna B Mix Clay Wheel Thrown Oxidation Fired to 2165°F "Creating Mar, I use Laguna B mix clay to throw on the potter’s wheel. It lets me work on the body of the pot easily. When the pot is in leather hard state, I worked on the feet with the proper trimming. Carving my design drainage hole, wire holes and signature. It slowly gets bone dry state and then bisque fired at 1940°F.
I used commercial mid fire glazes with my own combinations, a floating turquoise base with bands of fluxing glaze, to achieve my design of waves, crashing against the lower band and feet, glazed with a lava texture, sand colored mix. Finally fired to 2165°F with a natural cooling in an oxidation atmosphere. Mar has been influenced by the nature of my island home, the turquoise waters of our coast and pristine sandy beaches, combining the classical conical form of bonsai pot, with my identity and color palate. I envision a semi cascade style buttonwood hanging by the side of my pot." - Yrene C. Vasquez |
